Coach-led classes or a guide you keep? Two very different ways to rebuild your core
What Holistic Core Restore does brilliantly, where it costs more, and when a one-time guide is the better fit.
Quick answer
Holistic Core Restore (HCR) is a coach-led women's health programme created by Jenny Burrell of Burrell Education and run by licensed coaches, mostly in the UK, as a 6 or 12 week course. It suits mums who want live guidance and a whole-body approach, and the UK coach listings we checked priced a 6-week block at roughly £135 to £360. Mumma Glow is a self-paced digital guide you buy once from US$15, with no classes and no subscription. Choose HCR for hands-on coaching and a group; choose Mumma Glow if budget, a newborn's unpredictable days or the lack of a local coach make a one-time guide more realistic.

What is Holistic Core Restore?
Holistic Core Restore is a programme developed by Jenny Burrell, founder of Burrell Education, a UK education provider that trains fitness and wellness professionals who work with women. Rather than selling a single video course, HCR trains and licenses coaches who then run the programme themselves, in person or online, in small groups or one to one.
The flagship HCR EveryWoman course runs for 6 or 12 weeks and blends breathwork, pelvic floor work (including down-training, which means learning to relax the pelvic floor as well as lift it), mindful movement, alignment, supportive nutrition and lifestyle habits. Coaches receive ongoing education, and several coach websites name women's health physiotherapist Michelle Lyons as the programme's clinical consultant.
Where HCR genuinely shines
- A real person watching you move. A coach can spot breath-holding, bearing down or a doming belly that is easy to miss on your own.
- Whole-woman scope. The nervous system, pelvic floor relaxation and lifestyle elements go well beyond abs-only programmes.
- Accountability and community. A weekly class with other women is a powerful reason to keep turning up.
- Not only for new mums. The EveryWoman programme is designed for women at different life stages, so it can grow with you.
Where it may not fit
- Cost. Coaches set their own prices, so one 6-week block commonly runs into the low hundreds of pounds, and a second phase is often sold separately.
- Timetables. Classes happen at set times, which can clash with feeds, naps and a partner's shifts.
- Availability. You need a coach nearby, or an online coach whose schedule works for you; outside the UK, choice is thinner.
- Fixed term. When the block ends, the structure ends too unless you rebook.
What is Mumma Glow?
Mumma Glow sells downloadable postpartum recovery guides: step-by-step plans for diastasis recti, pelvic floor, C-section recovery, glute strength and new-mum energy. You pay once (individual guides from US$15, the full bundle US$50), download straight away and work through at your own pace, whether that is at 6am or while the baby naps. There is no coach, no live feedback and no community group, and that is the honest trade-off for the lower price.

What both approaches get right
Abdominal separation is common after birth: Sperstad et al. (British Journal of Sports Medicine, 2016) found diastasis recti in 60% of first-time mothers at 6 weeks and 32.6% at 12 months postpartum. Both programmes lean on the same foundations that clinical guidance points to: reconnecting the breath with the deep core and pelvic floor, progressing gradually, and treating leaking or heaviness as signals rather than something to push through. The NHS encourages pelvic floor exercises soon after birth and a gradual return to activity, and ACOG advises that most people can build up exercise step by step once their clinician is happy. Neither HCR nor Mumma Glow replaces a women's health physiotherapist when symptoms are significant; our piece on how the pelvic floor and diastasis recti are linked explains why the two are usually trained together.
A good example of that shared foundation is the dead bug, a controlled back-lying move that teaches your deep core to hold steady while your arms and legs move. It turns up in many postnatal plans, and we break it down in our step-by-step dead bug guide for new mums.
Cost over a year: why the pricing model matters
Coach-led programmes are priced per block because you are paying for a professional's time and expertise, which is fair. Complete two 6-week phases and you will usually spend a few hundred pounds. A one-time guide costs less than a single session on most of the coach price lists we checked, but you supply the motivation yourself. We unpack the two models in more depth in subscription vs one-time postpartum programmes.
Which should you choose?
Our honest verdict
Choose Holistic Core Restore if there is a coach near you, you value hands-on feedback and a group, and the price sits comfortably in your budget. Choose Mumma Glow if you want a structured plan for a fraction of the cost, need to train around a baby's unpredictable schedule, or live somewhere without an HCR coach. Some mums do both: a guide at home first, then a coached block later when life settles.

Frequently asked questions
Is Holistic Core Restore only for postnatal women?
No. The HCR EveryWoman programme is designed for women at different life stages, not only after birth. Postnatal mums are a big part of its audience, but the approach is not limited to them.
How much does Holistic Core Restore cost?
Prices are set by each licensed coach. The UK coach listings we checked in September 2026 ranged from roughly 135 to 360 pounds for a 6-week block, depending on whether it was group, online or one to one, and a second phase was often sold separately.
Can I do Holistic Core Restore online?
Many HCR coaches offer online classes as well as in-person sessions. Availability and timings depend on the individual coach, so check their schedule before you book.
Is a self-paced guide as effective as a coach?
It depends on you. A coach adds real-time feedback and accountability, while a guide gives flexibility at a lower cost. Any programme only helps if you do it consistently, and results vary from mum to mum.
Should I see a physio before starting either programme?
If you have leaking, pelvic heaviness, pain or a very wide or deep abdominal gap, see your GP, midwife or a women's health physiotherapist first. They can assess you and advise which kind of programme suits you.
