What are "Active" botanical ingredients?

Active ingredients in skincare: We explain what actives are and why your skin needs them!

You might have heard the term ‘active ingredients’ when it comes to skincare, especially if you are following us on our social pages as we bang on about it ALL THE TIME!

And we will keep banging on about them because they are that damn good!

Here at Mumma Glow, you might notice that we are committed to natural based skincare. We just know its better for your skin and better for the planet. Another thing we love is SCIENCE.

But what does this all mean?

It means that the active ingredients we put in our skincare have been proven to have an effect on your skin. We've kept out all the junk like parabens and fillers and left in all the ingredients that will make a real change to your skin.

What are active ingredients?

Actives are natural ingredients that have been scientifically proven to change the structure of your skin at a cellular level.

They’re the ingredients that work to repair, restore, balance, hydrate and protect your skin cells.

Not every ingredient in your skincare is "active". Emulsifiers create texture in skincare, like the buttery soft hydration in our Perfect Balance Moisturiser. Fragrances (our natural essential oils) make your product smell nice like the fruity cocktail of our Illuminating Tonic

While inactive ingredients can make a product smooth to apply and smell nice, the real value for money lies in the natural benefits to the skin – and that’s in the "activity" or active ingredients.

Why do we need actives?

More mature skin needs these potent ingredients to maintain plump and youthful looking skin. Younger skin and hormonal skin need them to control blockages caused by excess sebum that can lead to acne. Anyone exposed to the damaging effects of sun exposure needs active ingredients to avoid developing sun-induced skin conditions that could lead to skin cancers and pigmentation.

In short, everyone and every skin type can benefit from active skincare.

Why should we use active ingredients?

Because active ingredients = more effective skincare (and better skin care for you).

Remember that actives change the skin at a cellular level so the less synthetic ingredients that dilute or manipulate the actives in any way, the better for your skin and your wallet! Here at Mumma Glow, we are proud to say that every single ingredient in your product bottle contains a BENEFIT for your skin. There are no filling agents used purely to bulk out the product and we use some of the highest concentrations of 'actives' on the market. Every ingredient has been hand selected to give you what is listed on the bottle, and thats the Mumma Glow.
